A HOUSE OF COLOR

We embarked on a true creative adventure designing this exquisite home for a wonderfully fearless and gracious client. The journey commenced in August 2020, amidst the challenges of COVID, yet remarkably the home was ready for occupancy just eight months later.

Under the visionary direction of Maria and her daring client, this project redefined the notion of design transformation. An exhilarating pace was set, pushing the boundaries of artistic decision-making. The canvas unfolded with over twenty different wall coverings, countless fabrics, and a diverse array of accessories, furniture, and lighting lines. The collaboration between Maria and the client ushered in a new era of craftsmanship, creating a fresh and interconnected aesthetic.

While predominantly a finish and furnishings project, notable new custom-designed elements include the Primary Closet, Breakfast Room Wine Cellar Area, Kitchen Hood, and Family Room Fireplace. After the ordering of most furnishing items, a dedicated month was invested in curating accessories alone—adding the finishing touches to this opulent space.

The project showcased a kaleidoscope of patterns and colors through the use of wall coverings from renowned lines such as Aux Abris, Cole and Sons, Designers Guild, Maya Romanoff, Phillip Jeffries, Schumacher, and Thibaut. The main floor palette evolved around intense blues, leafy greens, golds, and lemons, complemented by contemporary light fixtures and stylized custom furniture. Upstairs, three distinctive palettes were crafted for individual bedrooms, each envisioned with a particular guest or family member in mind.

What truly sets this project apart is the involvement of the client’s nephews, who added a dynamic layer to the creative process. Living nearby, they regularly popped in to witness the transformation, expressing their fascination with elements like the Sylvan hexagon bronze mirror that, before installation, resembled “a spaceship had landed on the family room floor” rather than a mirror—an unexpected twist that encapsulates the spirit of this unique and personalized design odyssey.
